Board Games Meetup #1

Our single peach tree has given us more than 300 peaches over the last three weeks, ranging from apricot to palm-sized. Yesterday we spent a lot of time picking something like 150 of them, which meant we didn't have any fridge space left. I started panicking about what to do about all the peaches, so I decided I would go to the Board Games Meetup I've skipped out on for like six months so I could offload some peaches. I felt extremely anxious the whole night because bringing peaches felt weird as hell and I also don't really like board games because I have a whole hangup about not doing things skillfully and being embarrassed for it, especially in a competitive sense. I got about one hour of real sleep, and the rest of the time (when I wasn't angst tweeting on my phone for like 40 mins before deleting it all) was spent in what I can assume were microsleeps between anxiety-filled insomnia. It really felt like I didn't sleep for a single second, but brains are apparently good at lying about that sort of thing.

I arrived 10 mins ahead of the designated time (10:30, which is also an evil time to me as someone who hates waking up), and no one else even showed up for like another 20 mins. Chill Lady was the first to show up and we talked a bit. Then someone who I think only showed up to the last book club meeting appeared and I gave them like 4 peaches (I brought 30). Eventually Purple Corn and then Teacher Lady and Multiple Names Guy showed up, but it took like an hour since I arrived to even get into the board game place. Multiple Names Guy even bought breakfast after showing up 30 mins past the suggested time and I was really not aware that I could've just slept in later. Bookstore Employee would even show up like an hour after that since apparently they can't wake up in the mornings, which is relatable. If I come to another one of these I'll aim to show up 30 mins past meeting time.

Teacher Lady was excited about the peaches, which was good. In the end, Purple Corn and Multiple Names Guy took some and then I gave the rest to Teacher Lady & Bookstore Employee to take home since they're siblings. (I had already given Chill Lady 20 of them the other day.)

The games we played were thankfully not super competitive or numbers based. It was two team games, Wavelength and I don't remember what the other one was called, but both of these basically involved clues and guessing what someone else meant. For the first game I avoided being the clue giver since that seemed like pressure, and people were ok with that (I also said I would be mostly a spectator and that seemed to go ok.) New person who I am now calling Green Nail Polish (they said that was their favorite color, looked pretty pale-ish green) regularly plays Wavelength and helped explain it. Their energy is friendly so they seem like a good party board game person to have around.

Multiple Names Guy did the board game selecting and one of the games he picked was fast-paced / numbers based, but everyone else was too zoned out to follow. Teacher Lady is really good about speaking about her needs, I've noticed, which really takes the pressure off of me.

For the second game, it was like we all had to write clues based on a term that the guesser didn't see, and they had to guess the term from our single-word clues. I did participate as the guesser when it was my turn, which was a little scary but it went alright. Chill Lady and I wrote the same clue and nullified it as an option three times in a row, which was kind of ridiculous. I guess it goes to show that I have the easiest time talking to her so far. Maybe playing Animal Crossing together helped also, lol.

I didn't eat much before I got there because it was so early in the morning, so I ordered an "Asian Food Bowl", which honestly wasn't very good and not entirely filling either. At one point I dropped my fork on the table but used it anyway, and I can only hope that other people didn't find me gross for that.

All in all, it was fine but I asked to leave at 1:40 because that had been 3 hours by that point for me. Teacher Lady was tired too so we called it quits there, though apparently they don't have a formal stopping point. Purple Corn had just ordered tea but canceled the order because we were leaving, and I felt a bit bad about that but my social battery on one hour of sleep was really dead. Also I haven't gotten stuff I want to get done this weekend because of meeting my cousin yesterday and then doing all that peach and yard prep work for the fumigation. I honestly feel too tired now to work on my studying and art, so this weekend might just be a wash. Not to mention the next two weeks...

We still have like 60 peaches in the fridge right now. I also need to be sure to return Teacher Lady's puzzle at the next art meetup (which is pretty early in the morning again weh).
